St. Bernard Parish Holds Second Public Meeting and Workshop for the Old
Arabi Planning and Streetscapes Improvements Project

Date: Tuesday, December 10, 2013

Location: Arabi Elementary School Cafeteria (7200 Alexander Ave.)

Time: 6 p.m.

On December 10th, St. Bernard Parish will hold its second public meeting and
workshop at 6 p.m. in the Arabi Elementary School cafeteria. All residents,
business owners, and other Old Arabi stakeholders are invited to attend the
workshop to review and comment on urban design and planning proposals for
Old Arabi. Representatives from Waggonner & Ball Architects, the project
consultants, will provide a brief overview of the proposals, and lead
breakout sessions on specific areas such as St. Claude Avenue and the
riverfront. Input from this meeting will be critical for the further
development of the Revitalization Plan and for the design phases of the
project.

The project, which is being funded by a Community Development Block Grant,
will set goals and objectives for the ongoing revitalization of Old Arabi in
terms of both residential and commercial development. The work is considered
a small area plan that is being developed in tandem with the St. Bernard
Comprehensive Master Land Use and Zoning Plan. It will culminate in a
streetscape beautification project valued at $2.5 million.

The timing of the initiation of the project puts it in alignment with the
Comprehensive Plan, which gave participants an opportunity to become
familiar with the planning process and the value of their input to date. St.
Bernard Parish Government strongly encourages the residents and business
owners in Old Arabi to attend the meeting on the 10th in order for the
consultants to gain a strong sense of the desires for the neighborhood by
the public going forward. The process is dependent on the views, ideas and
values of the people who live and work in the area.
