St. Bernard Tourist Commission will meet Jan. 15 in Arabi: Community Report

The St. Bernard Parish Tourist Commission will meet Jan. 15 at 4:30 p.m. at
the Visitors' Center, 409 Aycock St. in Arabi.

Stitch in Time

The Stitch in Time club, an organization under the St. Bernard Volunteers
for Family & Community sponsored by the LSU AgCenter, will meet Jan. 16 at
10:30 a.m. in the Magnolia Room.

Volunteers needed

St. Bernard Parish Government is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on
the Planning Commission's At-Large West position. Volunteers must be a
resident of St. Bernard Parish residing in western part of the parish and a
registered voter. Applications are available daily from 8:30 a.m. and 4:30
p.m,in the St. Bernard Parish Government Personnel Department, 8201 W.
Judge Perez Ave. in Chalmette. The application period closed Jan. 24. For

Nextline Communications is assisting our Art Club by accepting OLD CELL
PHONES in any condition.
Old cell phones needed

The Art Club at Joseph Davies Elementary School is collecting old cell
phones for recycling. Nextline will safely recycle the phones and fund the
club with some proceeds. Extra proceeds will go toward the Sprint Project
Connect to support Internet safety for kids. Old phones may be delivered to
the school's front office.

Fuel your school

Three St. Bernard Parish schools received classroom supplies such as science
kits and iPads valued at more than $5,300 through Chevron fand
DonorsChoose.org's Fuel Your School program. In the program, Chevron and
DonorsChoose.org asked residents to fill up at local gas stations to help
fund school projects. Chevron contributed $1 when consumers purchased eight
or more gallons of fuel during October at participating Chevron and Texaco
stations in Orleans Parish. Schools are Arabi Elementary, Chalmette
Elementary and Joseph Davies Elementary.

Free throw contest

The Knights of Columbus will hold a free throw shooting contest Jan. 18 at
Cypress Gardens gym. Registration starts at 3:30 p.m. Shooting starts at 4
p.m. Boys and girls ages 9-14 may attend.
