A Chalmette man wanted for beating a woman he knew with a metal pull-up bar
was booked into the St. Bernard Parish Prison Saturday (Jan. 25), according
to the St. Bernard Sheriff's Office.

Marcel McCormick, 42, was being held in the parish prison on Monday in lieu
of a $25,000 bond.

McCormick was arrested on Thursday (Jan. 23) in Lafourche Parish, where he
had fled following the Jan. 4 beating of a 47-year-old Chalmette woman,
according to Sheriff Jimmy Pohlmann. McCormick and the woman lived together,
and the woman said that McCormick attacked her in their home during an
argument, the Sheriff's Office said.

He was booked on felony aggravated second-degree battery and domestic
battery.

The victim was knocked unconscious while McCormick hit her with a metal
pull-up bar on her head, face and in her rib area, the sheriff said.

McCormick later fell asleep, and so when the victim regained consciousness
she was able to escape, drive to her mother's residence in Chalmette and
call 911, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Two arrested for possession of stolen copper

In an unrelated case, two New Orleans men were arrested Jan. 21 for
possessing about $2,000 worth of stolen copper wire allegedly taken in a
business burglary from a marine business on France Road in New Orleans on
Jan. 17.

Norman Clark, 61, and John Lyerly, 52, were arrested by the Sheriff's Office
at a Chalmette scrap dealership when they returned on Jan. 21 to sell other
metals, Pohlmann said.

Clark has been released from St. Bernard Parish Prison on a $7,500 bond.
Lyerly remains in jail in lieu of $7,500 bond.
