Apache Corporation, St. Bernard Parish Government Donate Trees

to Chalmette Battlefield, Cemetery

St. Bernard Parish Government, working in conjunction with the Apache
Corporation, has donated over 250 trees to the Chalmette National
Battlefield and Chalmette National Cemetery as part of the National Park
Service's facility improvements for the upcoming Battle of New Orleans
Bicentennial.

"We were happy to share the recent tree allocation we received from the
Apache Corporation with the National Park Service to assist them with work
they are doing at both the battlefield and the cemetery," said Parish
President David Peralta.

"The National Park Service is an important community partner especially with
the two hundredth anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans approaching,"
said Peralta.

"Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve is happy to receive so
many young hardwood trees from Apache Corporation and St. Bernard Parish,"
said Guy Hughes, Chief Resource Manager at the Chalmette Battlefield.

"The trees will be used in the Chalmette National Cemetery to replace trees
lost in severe storms over the past decade. National Park Service staff
will be recruiting groups of volunteers in the coming month to prepare the
ground and plant the trees," said Hughes.

The trees were obtained by the St. Bernard Parish Government Grants
Department from the Apache Corporation, a Houston-based oil and gas
exploration company.

The Apache Corporation has made five tree allocations to the parish since
2009.

Thousands of trees and tree seedlings from the Apache Corporation have been
planted across the parish, including at schools, parks and wetlands.
