Nunez now offering eight-week construction classes

Building Louisiana's Craft Workforce, a 2013 report from the Louisiana
Workforce Commission's Investment Council, suggests 86,300 construction
workers are needed by 2016 in Louisiana, and "most of the.positions will
require Levels 1and 2 of the standardized construction and maintenance
curricula developed by NCCER."

Nunez Community College is now offering the NCCER courses needed to enter
the construction workforce for high-skilled, high-wage, and high-demand jobs
in the industry. Built into the classes are industry-based certifications
(IBC's) from the National Center for Construction Education and Research
(NCCER): specifically, Core, Electrical Level 1, and Electrical Level 2
Certifications.

Director of Workforce Development, Ernest Frazier, recently noted that, "The
construction industry in and around the Gulf Coast needs skilled workers.
Our experience-especially after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita-indicates that
if we do not have a local workforce to fill these high-paying jobs, workers
from other places come and occupy those positions."

Instructor, Exilus Louis, said, "These classes make it easy to learn
in-demand skills in short bursts, and earn certifications that can be used
anywhere in America."

Each class has a 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or 5-10 p.m. option, and dates and times
are as follows:

Introduction to Construction-February 24th to March OR February 24th to
April 2nd.

Electrical 1-March 27th to April 29th or April 3rd to June 10th, and

Electrical 2 from April 30th to July 11th or June 11th to July 31st.
