Sheriff: Video obtained in drug arrest shows Violet man beating dog with
boxing gloves
Dog euthanized in January, officials say

UPDATED 2:45 PM CDT Apr 07, 2014
ST. BERNARD PARISH, La. -A video obtained by the St. Bernard Parish
Sheriff's Office during a drug arrest showed a man beating a pit bull dog
with boxing gloves.

The man, identified as 21-year-old Asani Woods, was arrested March 28 on
charges of aggravated cruelty to a dog.

The Sheriff's Office said the video was found on a cellphone of a man
arrested on drug charges. The man, identified as 21-year-old Johnny
Dominick, admitted to recording the beating and can be heard encouraging the
attack, officials said.

In the video recorded in December, Woods is seen putting on boxing gloves
and beating the female dog, named Tiger, unconscious, according to

Woods was seen beating the dog in the head and body as Tiger whimpered and
cried during the attack, officials said.

Sheriff James Pohlmann called the video "a graphic scene of cruelty to an
animal" who was basically defenseless after the initial blow.

Woods dismissed the video, saying he was disciplining his dog after it made
a mess in his kitchen, officials said.

After several days of investigation, deputies learned the dog apparently
survived the December attack and was brought by Woods to the West Bank ASPCA
in January, according to the agency.

The agency reported the animal was euthanized there in January, saying the
owner had complained the dog was overly aggressive.

Woods was booked with aggravated cruelty to an animal after an arrest
warrant was signed by a judge and is being held in St. Bernard Parish Prison
in lieu of bond set at $100,000.
