Things are still fizzing and booming as the St. Bernard Parish Library’s readers participate in the 2014 annual Summer Reading Program. Sparking lots of fun and laughter at the Chalmette Branch over the next two weeks will be Ronald McDonald on Thursday, June 12th at 11:30 a.m. Everyone’s favorite clown will entertain audience members with lots of jokes, magic tricks and grins. The library’s Fridays with the Arts series will feature award-winning children’s musician, Rick Kelley. His free hour-long Music is a Blast concert is sure to get everyone involved when he revs up his performance with dancing, singing, laughing and hula hooping. His interactive musical program and his infectious personality will get the whole crowd on their feet. Rick will perform at the library on Friday, June 13th at 3 p.m. Also on the calendar this week is ‘Color Chaos’, a free story program featuring the science of color. ‘Color Chaos’ will be presented on Tuesday, June 10th at 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and again on Wednesday, June 11th at 11:30 a.m.

Keeping everyone bubbling with excitement during the library’s third week of activities will be a free Karate demonstration by Just For Kicks on Thursday, June 19th at 11:30 a.m. Martial Arts Instructor, Zane Spitnale will be on hand to demonstrate the fundamentals of karate. On June 20th at 3 p.m. the next installment of Fridays with the Arts will feature Frank Levy of Stories in Motion. Frank will get kids and adults involved in his interactive theatrical production of ‘The Wizard of Oz’. Narrated by Frank, performed by audience members, we will travel with Dorothy and Toto to wonderful world of Oz using props, costumes and sound effects. Just as audience members will use their sense of humor as well as their sense of hearing, seeing, and feeling during Friday’s performance, listeners will learn about the five senses during the ‘Science Sense’ story program set for Tuesday, June 17th at 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and on Wednesday, June 18th at 11:30 a.m.

The library’s Fridays with the Arts series is funded by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council as administered by the St. Tammany Commission on Cultural Affairs.

Readers are encouraged to continue working on their Fizz, Boom, Read! timed reading or activity sheets. Interested readers can still register to read for prizes.
