PLAQUEMINES PARISH, LA (WVUE) -- -
A St. Bernard Parish man was arrested for stealing copper from air
conditioning units during Hurricane Isaac.

According to police, the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Department began an
investigation on July 19, 2013 after learning that copper coils were stolen
from at least two homes in the 200 block of Oak Drive in the Braithwaite
Park area. Detective Lieutenant Brett Ricks responded to the scene and
collected partial DNA evidence from both scenes and submitted it for testing
at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.

The PPSO was notified of the test results on September 18, 2013. Detectives
learned that convicted drug offender Nicholas Dallen Lee of St. Bernard, was
linked to the crimes. After receiving an arrest warrant, detectives were
unable to locate Lee. During the investigation, detectives learned that Lee
was given a one-year probation on August 23, 2011 after being convicted of
possession of a schedule V CDS.

On May 22, 2014 Lee was arrested by St. Bernard Parish Deputies in an
unrelated incident. He was brought to Plaquemines Parish for his outstanding
warrant on May 28. During questioning, Lee admitted to the crimes and said
that he believes he sold the stolen copper to a New Orleans scrap yard.

Lee was booked with two counts of theft over $1500 and brought back to St.
Bernard Parish where he is still in custody.
