Two Arabi men arrested after efforts to hide pot recorded by their own
surveillance cameras, sheriff says

Seeing officers approaching on their surveillance system, authorities said
one Arabi man ran and another attempted to hide a pound of high-grade
marijuana. But surveillance cameras inside and outside their own home
captured their attempts at elusion, according to the St. Bernard Sheriff's
Office.

Treyson G. Thedy, 25, the owner of the home on the 6500 block of Chartres
Street, and Kevin Schmidt Jr., 18, who also lived at that residence, were
booked last week on charges of possession with intent to distribute both
marijuana and Xanax, cultivation of marijuana, possession of a firearm in
combination with a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a firearm
with an obliterated serial number and possession of drug paraphernalia that
included scales, baggies and a grinder.

St. Bernard sheriff's narcotics agents served a search warrant on June 4 and
found nearly a pound of marijuana worth about $5,000, and 659 tablets of the
anti-anxiety prescription medication Xanax, worth nearly $3,000, Sheriff
Jimmy Pohlmann said.

A shotgun, a handgun with an illegally obliterated serial number, and a
marijuana plant also were seized, according to the Sheriff's Office.

After observing police at their doorstep, Schmidt ran out a back door and
hid under the raised house, and Thedy opened the door and threw out a large
plastic bag containing the marijuana, Pohlmann said. He said the
surveillance system recorded all that activity
