A 30-year-old St. Bernard Parish woman died on Monday afternoon, apparently
after she shot herself, the Sheriff's Office reported.

Sheriff Jimmy Pohlmann said the woman, who lived in the Poydras neighborhood
in eastern St. Bernard, appeared to have shot herself with a .40-caliber
handgun at about 2:15 p.m. Monday inside a Chevrolet pickup truck in a
Chalmette parking lot on the 2500 block of Paris Road, near Judge Perez
Drive.

After the shooting, she was taken to the Interim LSU Public Hospital in New
Orleans, where she was pronounced dead, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office on Monday did not release her name and Pohlmann said
that an investigation was continuing into the incident and what led to it.
