St. Bernard Parish Library's Story Craft Program, Part Art

There are some incredible examples of art and science going hand-in-hand
that have led to the creation of popular literary treasures. Eric Carle and
Robert Sabuda and Lois Ehlert are a few of the masters of both word and/or
illustrations that will be featured during the St. Bernard Parish Library's
story craft program, Part Art. This free hour-long event will take place
Tuesday, July 1st at 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and again on Wednesday, July 2nd
at 11:30 a.m.

There is also an art to storytelling and no one demonstrates that better
than St. Bernard Parish Fire Chief Tommy Stone when he shares his beloved
book, The Little Fire Engine That Saved the City by Dennis Smith. Chief
Stone and members of the St. Bernard Fire Department will be on hand to
share fire safety tips with summer readers of all ages on Thursday, July 3rd
at 11:30 a.m. Firefighters will help participants practice what they learn
when they go through the Fire Safety House. This event is quite timely
coming just before the 4th of July holiday, a popular time for barbeques and
fireworks. Library patrons are reminded that there are no activities
scheduled for the remainder of the week as the library will be closed
Friday, July 4th and Saturday July 5th in honor of Independence Day.

Pre-readers through 12th graders are encouraged to complete their timed
reading and activity sheets. The deadline to turn them in and have their
name entered in the library's Grand Finale Prize Drawing is Thursday, July
10th. The prize drawing will be held on Friday, July 11th at 3 p.m.
Winners must be present to claim their prizes. Adult readers have until
August 2nd to complete their summer reading to be eligible for their prize
drawing set for August 5th. Adult winners will be notified by phone.
Prize sponsors are: Audubon Institute, Chalmette Movies, J & M Jewelers,
Kiwanis Club of St. Bernard-Arabi, Local Flair, Louisiana Children's Museum,
McDonalds, MeMe's Bar and Grille, National World War II Museum, New Orleans
Paddlewheels Inc., Pets Plus, and Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers.
