A road in Chalmette resembled a beach on Friday (June 27) after state and
parish road crews sanded it over to cover an oily substance spilled that
morning by an unknown vehicle, according to the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's
Office.

>From the morning until early afternoon Friday, Paris Road periodically was
closed for about half a mile, from about Solidelle Street to Virtue Street,
according to Sheriff Jimmy Pohlmann.

Pohlmann said there were no vehicle accidents due to the slippery substance,
which was possibly hydraulic liquid or cooking oil. He said it apparently
spewed from a moving vehicle.
