The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office is offering holiday season free
rides home starting Thanksgiving Day to reduce drunk driving.

The Holiday Ride Home program -- now in its 32nd year -- will last through
Jan. 2.

A deputy can be requested by calling 504-271-2501. Deputies will pick up
passengers anywhere in St. Bernard Parish and drop off to homes anywhere in
the parish. Deputies won't give rides to bars or parties.

A passenger who lives outside the parish will be taken to a Sheriff's Office
station to make arrangements to get home from there.

"It is so simple and it could save your life or the life of someone you
might hit in a traffic accident," Sheriff James Pohlmann said in a news
release.

The Sheriff's Office said about 20 people use the program every year.
