Hello everybody, and long time no email! This is a general announcement
message for all the kind folks on our Talbert Pipes email list. We’ve been
silent for quite a while but there have been big things happening in the
background, though a lot of this year has been lost to some health issues
I’ll give a quick recount of below, for those who want to know.
First up, though, is the immediate news - I’ve just posted EIGHT new Ligne
Bretagnes to the site catalog! Check them all out here:
https://talbertpipes.com/product-category/bretagne/
A good number of them are variations on our freehand brandyglass shape,
which we’re going to soon run out of and that will be another discontinued
LB shape once they’re all gone. You’ll see a lot of new ideas in finishes
and stains though, as we’ve recently added an airbrushing station and a
laser engraver to our workshop equipment. Finally, better looking logos
than my old hand stamping! A couple of these pipes have the last examples
of hand stamped logos, but the rest are the new, laser engraved versions.
They’re nice and crisp and I like them very much already, and it’s extra
nice not to have to worry about my hand slipping and ruining a finished
pipe on the very last step.
The airbrushing is another new feature that you’ll be seeing more of. I
tried airbrushing pipe stains back in the 90’s with uninspiring results but
I’m having vastly better luck this time, which I guess is either a factor
of greater experience, more purposed equipment, or both. In any case,
there are some nice stain fades in this update.
Also, we’re going to CORPS! Yes, we’ll be at this year’s Richmond Pipe
Show. I’m working on some inventory for the show and hope to have at least
a few Halloween pieces there also (No advance sales or reservations, sorry,
I don’t even know what I’ll be making yet or will have time to make). Hope
to see a few of you good people at the show!
And finally, sorry to be absent for so long. Once more, my wife had
surgery earlier this year which put a big crimp in our working schedules,
but that was nothing compared to my own health issues - I started the year
with a blood pressure of 190+ and was diagnosed with untreated Type 2
diabetes and hypertension, which entailed an immediate and massive
lifestyle change. For the past seven months I’ve switched diet completely,
no more fast food, and now exercise at the gym daily and get in a lot of
walking steps and bike riding every day. I feel WAY better than I did
starting the year, but it’s been a rough road and it’s been quite difficult
incorporating all these daily changes into our working schedule… For a long
time, it seemed like my day just vanished into homemade, diabetes-friendly
meal prep, then gym, walking, etc, then more meal prep, and then I had
about an hour left to work before bed. We’ve gradually altered both our
working schedules to wrap around this new reality but it has taken some
time and effort, thus why we’ve had so little output for the first half of
this year.
I hope to make it up in the second half!
Happy Smoking,
Trever Talbert
