My target market is also K-12 education and we are in the same situation of
supporting OS9, OSX, and windows. So any help to support older operating
systems is appreciated.

Subject: [WASTE-list] Re: OSX Minimum Version

A large part of my market is K-12 education, and we still have a
significant customer base running OS9 (typically on iMacs that could
run OSX if anyone were interested in buying extra memory for them,
which no one is...). (The typical scenario is a school district
running OSX in the high school, but using older machines and OS9 in
elementary buildings.) So I produce three versions of my products -
OS9, OSX, and Windows. (The OS9 and OSX products are currently nearly
identical -- there are only a few places where the OSX version uses
APIs which are not available on OS9-Carbon-CFM.)

So, I'm still using WASTE 2.1.

Over the next year or so, I will be moving the OSX version to MachO
to support MacTel customers, and I plan to drop OS9 support some time
after that. So obviously, I won't be working with WASTE 3 for a
while. BUT, I do know that I still have a substantial number of OSX
customers who are still running Jaguar, so I think that WASTE 3 on
Jaguar is still important. I realize that lots of shops take a
different approach, but I find that I have a lot of customers who are
slow to upgrade their operating systems.

I realize that supporting Jaguar is expensive -- for Marco and for
us. But I hope that Marco will choose to support Jaguar in WASTE 3
for at least another year or two, giving us more time to work with
our budget-constrained customers. In my markets, change --
particularly change that involves substantial financial outlays --
comes very slowly indeed.
