At least I think I am back! My ISP was one that decided it didn't want me
getting mail from Topica. What was worse, they would not admit that they
automatically bounced mail, even though it was clearly being bounced....sigh...
So, thanks Bill for changing and helping so many of us out! I appreciate it!
After 6 years on this list, maybe a bit longer, it is tough to live without my
daily dose of carving email!
So, to keep this really carving related....my wife received a present today from
a friend at church that she was not expecting anything from. Nothing would do
but we needed something, and a chip carved wooden cross was the most appropriate
thing we could do. (She just finished her seminary and ordination a few months
ago)
At 3:30 I sat down with a pattern from Wayne Barton's latest book and a piece of
basswood and started smoothing the wood, gluing down the pattern, and the chip
carving it. It is a gothic pattern, fairly intricate, and intended for a 9" by
14" cross. My wood was smaller so the cross is smaller, but considerably more
compext to carve in smaller scale. By 8:30 this evening, I have the cross
carved and lightly stained and a first coat of lacquer on it. I think I set a
new record for myself. LOL! I hope I like it as well tomorrow morning as I did
when I shut the light off tonight!
And now I think my christmas carving is done, at least I hope so!
