Joe,
That's right. The relative hardness or softness of the wood
has nothing to do with how the scientists group it. Fast and ez
rule is deciduous is hardwood and pine/fir/spruce etc is softwood.
There are some exceptions going either way but they have to do with
genetic or species differences not whether the wood is actually
hard or soft. There are bunches of extremely HARD softwoods and
(basswood) some very soft hardwoods. Confusing, no? ;-)
