You're right Bonnie, design is so important.
That 32-foot long carving has 11 expansion joints taking up a total of
6-inches from summer to winter.There is 144 bolts drilled through the face
of the carving and than plugged. Each bolt hole is design to allow only so
much movement and some are tight allowing no movement. The back of the
carving had to be machined out to be mounted to the curved wall. Designing a
system like that is almost as interesting as doing the actual carving.
