[Woodcarver] The Carver

My tools are spread before me and I know my subject well.
How many times I've carved it, there is no way to tell.
The family gathers 'round me 'tho they've seen it all before,
No other does it like me and they know what lies in store.
Some carvers hack and slice and chop, no pride in what they do.
Their goal is just to get it done. So quick their job is through.
I take my time and do it right, no cut is made in haste.
I plan each move and carve with care to minimize the waste.
I know that when completed with pride I can proclaim,
"I put my heart and soul in this" because that was my aim.
My masterpiece is finished but the family seems upset.
I don't know why, they know my style, but applause I do not get.
I carved with care and did it right but if the truth were told,
The reason that they're mad at me is 'cause the turkeys cold.
