I cheated: I laid down som serious amounts of yellow wood glue. and spread sand on top of the wood glue(lots of sand
Afer it dried I turned the carving up side down and removed the loose sand and wala a beach.
I did have to touch up one area. .

Before I laid the sand down I took MDF and used a cutsal bur and roughed it up so that is wasn't perfectly flat and then distribuited the sand and glue.

OK, Bill. Here's my question to help get the list back to carving
questions.
I'm working on some birds for a show later this month and I need to
create some habitat. I want to have a sandy shoreline to display some
decorative shorebirds. How do list members create the effect of sand
in a habitat? Thanks in advance for any and all ideas.
