[Woodcarver] Mannequin

I have an idea for a caricature of a mechanic.  Would the little wooden mannequin (you can buy one at the craft dept at WalMart) be good for a model?  I know the magazines always say make a clay model, which I might try but I does anyone use the wood mannequin?
