I make a sand habitat using Well.....SAND! After your base is built and
finished, just spread some elmers glue or superglue where you want the sand
and sprinkle clean sand over the glue and let the glue set. It's as easy as
it sounds. You can get a 40 lb bag of sand for a couple of $ at most lumber
yards get the fine sand used for sand boxes if you want fine sand, get the
sand for concrete mix if you want a more textured sand.

OK, Bill. Here's my question to help get the list back to carving
questions.
I'm working on some birds for a show later this month and I need to
create some habitat. I want to have a sandy shoreline to display some
decorative shorebirds. How do list members create the effect of sand
in a habitat? Thanks in advance for any and all ideas.
