I have an idea for a caricature of a mechanic. Would the little wooden
mannequin (you can buy one at the craft dept at WalMart) be good for a model? I
know the magazines always say make a clay model, which I might try but I does
anyone use the wood mannequin?
I have one of those wooden mannequins and my nephew has one also, both 12"
larger versions, mine female, his male, 2 different manufacturers and have as
of late been playing around with both. I am not happy with them at all.
they do not have full mobility especially in the legs and torso. the arms
aren't too bad. they can not bend over very far, they can not be put into a
sitting, kneeling positions. In short they are okay for some general poses but I
would think that of all the poses a human being can easily get into, the
wooden mannequins might be able to reproduce 60% or less. As a carver I think
they are pretty much useless and not very realistic. Bendable wire may give
you a better chance at a posable stick figure. from 1st hand experience I like
clay when working a carving out. I use sculpey non drying clay. its
expensive but if you use one of those 40 or 50 % off coupons from Michaels and buy
the instructors pack, its a fair price. have mine for 3 years now and it
really hasn't dried at all.
