Congratulations on finding a job!!!  I travel with my carving tool 
often...just make sure they are securely packed in your checked luggage.
I use a TSA approved lock, and find the TSA agents very cooperative 
when I ask if I can wait until after they have done their inspection 
to lock the bags.  That way, if the lock is opened anywhere along the 
way, I'll know.  It isn't fool-proof, but is better than nothing.
