I'm working on a project of making a 12-14 foot tall cross and the beams
need to be no less than 8 inches by 8 inches. This is for our Easter program and
it will be suspended from the center of the sanctuary so weight becomes an
issue.

how about furring strips and chicken wire covered with paper mache. This
would allow it to remain fairly light so it could easily be raised and hung
without much worry.
