[Woodcarver] canes

I would like to make some canes for friends and family that are having trouble getting around.  What I have in mind is purchasing  turned hardwood shafts with a brass or other ferrule at the joint and making  carved handles myself.  Does anyone know where I can purchase turned shafts and ferrules?
