Joe,
If any are eligible for a Veteran¹s Memorial Cane, have them get in touch
with me or Jack Nitz (thehickoryhiker at gmail.com). We would love to send
them a memorial cane. We cannot do enough for those who gave so much for
us.

Joe,
How many do you anticipate needing and how many do you have ???

Sorry I meant to send the last post in private. I just hit the wrong button
Besides Denny, tools have arrived from Big Dog, Rod Schriver, Gordon
Corlette and Mike Kray. There are more that are in the mail including a
check for $25. I am always amazed at the generosity of our woodcarving
community. You people are really something.
I think we already have everything we need in tools, donated from you
carvers, if all those who said that they are sending some do. I know that we
already have enough knives. I will take all the tools, even extras to them.
There's just no such thing as having too many knives when there's wood to
whittle. Carving Magazine is going to send a bunch of past issues for
continuing education.
Norm Brady, my past student and the fellow who making the arrangements, has
already purchased all the wood and a set of Marple chisels on ebay.
Tom, I'm not sure how many disabled veterians will be in class. We now have
3 for sure and expect to have 5. I don't know how many there are at the base
and which ones are interested. But I'm thinking that we have all the chisels
and knives we'll need for now if they all come in. One item I think I will
need is a power carver. like Ryoby, with FlexCut chisels (or another power
carver) because I think one only has one arm.
Depending on the extent of the disabilities 3 to 5 students might be all we
can handle. Norm Brady and my wife Sharon will be helping me. More like I
will be helping Norm and Sharon because they have much more experience with
disabilities. I am proud to be part of the team and represent all of you.
I'm hoping we can keep it going after this class.
If we do this again what I would like to do is to give out the name and some
information on each disabled veterian (with their permission) so people can
ship the tools and supplies directly them. That would be a great way for
them to build a network of woodcarving friends. I will be giving them the
list of names and contact information of those who are donating to this
first class.
