Chris Pye's introduction to relief carving is very thorough.

???? Hello all,

???? My name is Floyd Brigdon and I am a new subscriber to the list.
???? I have played with power carving for a while and a couple of months ago seriously started trying to teach myself to carve with it. I had just gotten to the point where I was really enjoying myself when, a little over a week ago, the Dremel died.
???? In an effort to get me to stop pouting, my wife bought me an introductory set of Flexcut tools (I love that woman) and something that I never dreamed of happened: I am now addicted to the idea of learning traditional tools, as well.
???? I am mostly interested in learning relief carving (figural relief mostly, though landscapes are appealing too) and lettering, but am willing to learn anything that will help me better my carving skills with power and with traditional tools.
???? I live about twenty minutes east of Dallas (in Terrell) and I have not been able to locate anyone through the couple of stores I frequent to teach me relief carving.
???? Is there anyone on the list who might know of a relief carving teacher in the Dallas area?
???? In lieu of that, what are the best resources for someone wanting to learn relief carving? I already own the "Relief Carving in a Different Light" DVD from Flexcut and already plan on getting Mr. Judt's books ASAP, but what other resources should I consider.
???? Though I am brand new to this hobby, I am very excited about being here and about having the opportunity to learn from you all and getting to know you.
???? Thank you in advance for your help and advice!

????? Floyd Brigdon
