[Woodcarver] Reversing Motor Direction

I believe that not all motors are capable of bi-directional operation.  This
may be your problem...

I have  tried to wire a double pole,double throw switch to a 1/4 horse motor
I use to drive a  1x42 " belt  used to sharpen my carving tools . I have
followed the instructions that I got when I bought the switch however the
motor still does not reverse . Obviously I am missing something ---has
anyone wired such a switch .
