Hi Merrilee,
I agree that 50/50 works great, I also read one from someone that said about woodturners. We use ca glue (superglue)just another term for it to fill cracks, voids while we are still turning but we also have power and very sharp tools that allow us to be able to cut the wood unlike carving. True crumbling is a bad issue no one wants to talk about but from a turners stand when your done with the carving you seal the wood with wood hardner it should last a very long time. I have used it on many items I have turned that have had termite damage, wormholes, etc only downside is that you are stuck with is that nothing will go over the top of wood hardner or none that I know of. There may be a ton of people out there that know some other ideas. Good luck.

Good Afternoon all!
I am in need of your great knowledge concerning wood. I am carving a welcome sign on basswood that has wormholes in it (I like the look :) so that's not the problem) but it is terribly dry and crumbly. Is there any way to rejuvenate it so it's easier to carve or am I doomed to pick it until it falls apart? Thank you all in advance for your great words of wisdom!
Merrilee
