Thank you Ivan,
I have read that thread with great interest and agree with all you said. The problem I had was how the congress got intergected into the chat. I am assuming this was aimed at the Woodcarving Congress not the USA one. We all know what "assume" makes one be.

Steve,

A question was asked about projects that a shop teacher could use with 5th graders. My reply was to first decide which skills the students needed to learn and then create projects that develop those skills: sawing in a straight line, using a square, smoothing with a plane, using a coping saw, etc. Additionally, the shop teacher has an opportunity to integrate the other skills the students are learning into his teaching: reading directions, measuring, math, 45 and 90 degree angles, working in groups on a project, etc. I editorialized, however, if there are more students than stations, it will be a challenge. I climbed higher on my soapbox and expressed my admiration for those teachers who, in spite of issues of overcrowding, dealing with the diversity of students and their development, somehow make it work.

I'm personally not into blaming a single entity for our problems, educational, political or otherwise. We're all in this together. The guy in the mirror is as much to blame as anybody else. He also deserves some credit, because, in spite of our problems--and we'll never be without them, we're all doing a pretty good job of plugging away with what we've got.

Now off the soapbox and back to making chips.

Please submitt all else that was included in your comments about the Congress. My computer must be having an old age problem as I am having right now. I must say your comment about the "Soo" got my attention. Not knowing what you are baseing your comments on I must say that this is the first bad thing I have herad about the Congress. Ivan Please repost so I can understand where you are coming from. I have been a member (lurker) of this group for many years and have not ever heard of something like this.

Good idea Ivan! I wonder if Congress would consider it.... That unfortunately won't happen because they are sooo much more important than teachers and children.
