Late at night I will carve in the TV room leaving chips as y`all know. One
night I missed some and Elsa hit the roof yelling for me to get down here.
With apologies I cleaned up. Should be the end of the story but my sick
humour kicked in ....... That night I got out the Arbortech and started to
rough out a new piece and left ankle deep chips all around the chair. Next
am she (Elsa) never said a word but did look overwhelmed. I quickly
cleaned up but she never said another word

Hey Doug,
Clean-up is always a problem if those chips find their way into the threads
of a carpet. I hate that and don't have a good solution other then getting
on your hands and knees to pull those buggers free from the carpet. At Home
Shows most places have an industrial carpet that is a tight weave or an
indoor/outdoor type of carpet. I find I can sweep most of the chips with a
stiff bristle broom and the tough ones will loosen if I poke the bristle
into the chips rather then drag the broom over them. The show facilities
don't seem to mind following up with their industrial vacuum to get those
tiny chips I leave behind.
The most unusual place I carved was on the set at WGN TV morning news. It
was to promote one of the Home Shows I was in. I was carving a mantel and
had more mantels on display on the set. This was when those vacuum robots
were new and they were playing with one on the set. The talent suggested a
chip contest between the vacuum and I. When I saw the hole in the bottom, to
suck up the dirt, was only about 1-1/2 inch diameter, I knew it would
struggle with chips that were longer. It was an hour news show where I had
several spots plus the interview. Every time I moved my feet the robot had
to learn my new postion. Sometimes there was quiet on the set, so I couldn't
carve and other times they wanted construction-like background noise
(pounding) like when the report from Hollywood was on. They joked that they
were constructing a new set. Another thing that happened near the end of the
segment was one of those large light bulbs in the ceiling blew up with a big
POP. It was a fun time.

Hi all,
I have a new questions where I hope we can have some fun and pass on some
good tips with our chips !
When carving outside of your shop, the family room, doctor's office, the
trendy expensive restaurant , church how do you clean up your chips ?
I know the sheet method , the mini-vacuum etc. What specifically do you use
? I have tried so many mini=vacs for a quick clean up only to find they
don't have the SUCK power to get the job done.
Tell us when how you have caught HE double hockey stick form others for
those D#@n chips laying all over ?? Where is the most unusual place you
have ever carved ?/(I'm leaking this to the Chinese !)
My wife (the luck one) Mary Ann will love it if I learn any clean up
techniques ! (no take a shower comments please )
I can only imagine where this will go (I have a very limited imagination ) !
Have fun !
Doug Evans
