Hey Mike!
I have some furniture carvers tool and all my bevels are on the under side. But there are several that are reverse curves is all I can describe them as. Several of us finally decided they were used for rounding curves from the top. That doesn't make any sense reading it but you wouldn't have to flip your U gouge over to round the edges. Its already done. They hold an edge for a long time and feel great to use. I am so lucky I grabbed them before anyone else! !! It would be interesting to see what cabinet carvers carve different from furniture carvers. They look pretty cool though. Mine have such fancy handles and are all pretty small radius for the U and the width is tiny also. Just perfect for what I like to carve! BTW tell Harold Hi for me!
Later!
Merrilee

Hey Gang,

At our weekly Erie Canal Woodcarvers meeting last night a friend brought these tools to show me. They belonged to a deceased uncle who was a cabinet maker and they were offered to him. Not “weird” enough for a “whatzit”, but thought they’d be interesting to everyone. The blades are interchangeable with a system I’ve never seen before. The end off the handle shaft is tapered and fits into a tapered hole at the base of each blade in the same way a violin tuning peg fits into the tuning box of a violin. Surprisingly solid and easy to undo when needed. The “weird” part about this set is that the bevel on all the edges is on the inside. Is this because they were used by a cabinet maker? Harold and I saw this done on a “V” tool at an antique tool booth and thought it was just an “inside” joke for woodcarvers. <G>
