Ron,

How about colored stains as a compromise. I mix MinWax "natural" (or boiled
linseed oil) with an artist oil colors. It's a method borrowed from
several sources, used by many of us, and in a similar form actually goes
back to "Andy" Anderson who recommended white gas and artist powders instead
of opaque paints. Just a thought.

Keep on Carvin'

Thank you all for the kind words.

I would like the leave the carving natural with only some airbrush stain to
bring out the details but it is, after all, a logo. I wont be gold leafing
any of it because the original artwork that I used as a design doesn't have
gold.

I think I might do a color stain using thinned artist's oils to allow the
grain to show through. I'm still waiting on a decision from the client. I
will be doing other carvings for them that will be left natural.

Very nice carving.
What color and type of paints will you use?

Do you plan to gold leaf any portions of the sign?

Hi All,

I have been working on a commission for the Sierra Nevada Brewery for the
last
couple of months. I was inspired by Grinling Gibbons on this project
although I
don't claim to have the level of skill he had.

Be sure to look at the incredible nature inspired art jewelry hand
fabricated by
my wife, Karen Olsen Ramsey. It's worth the time to take a look!
