Google Mooney. He carved several trains in the round. Used mostly ivory. That was back when you could get it.

Take a look at this site: http://mrr.trains.com/ it is the site for Model Railroads. There is a link on the site for ‘Community’ where some pictures of various railroad engines, box cars, etc. are located. Model railroaders are very precise regarding realism and scale and you may be able to find what you want or ask for references since the model railroaders are infamous for obtaining and maintaining photos of the ‘real’ items they intend to model.

I searched 'freight train images' and got a lot of photos, but they are pretty homely unless you go back to the old ones.
