Reading the current issue of "The Keystone" (Vol. 39. No. 3) raised a few
questions for me.

During a discussion of the ICC ordering the PRR to install a train control
system in 1922 the article mentioned that the Norfolk & Western was one of the
PRRs "subsidiary railroads".

A bit later the article mentions that Norfolk and Western "selected a three
speed pneumatic governor system for installation on its line between Hagerstown
MD and Shenandoah, VA" and later added "a two speed electric governor system"
between Shenandoh and Roanoke.

Could someone please give me the background about the Norfolk & Western being
a PRR subsidiary ?

What type traffic ran between Roanoke and Hagerstown and how long did it
operate ?

What's the signifigance of Norfolk & Western and Norfolk and Western ?

Thanks in advance for instructing this novice in the Norfolk and Western's
history.
