STARTED AS TELEGRAPHER ON NORFOLK AND WESTERN
------
Vice President and General Manager of Seaboard Air Line to Pass Through City Today
Vice President and General Manager Charles H. Hix and other officials of the Seaboard Air Line will arrive in this city this morning on a special car attached to No. 15. The party will leave here on train No. 5 for Kiser*, on the Clinch Valley, where the car will be turned over to the Carolina, Clinchfield and Ohio and an inspection trip over that road made.
While in the service of the Norfolk and Western Mr. Hix rose from a telegraph operator on the Norfolk division to trainmaster on both the Radford and Sciota [sic] divisions. He was a chief dispatcher on the Norfolk division when he entered the employ of the Seaboard Air Line.
------
*Kiser was renamed Carbo about 1920. The CC&O had trackage rights over the N&W between St. Paul and Kiser in order to reach the CC&O Dumps Creek extension at the latter point, so apparently the inspection trip described as being over the CC&0 road was actually over the CC&O Dumps Creek extension out of Kiser. This CC&O Dumps Creek extension became the N&W's Dumps Creek branch in 1956.
