I can gaurantee you that we ran radio trains (units mid train) up the Valley from the late eighties until their demise.

For one week, I had to convert h.p. of the engine consist and trailing tonnage into a "horsepower per trailing
ton" statistic for ever train entring and leaving Roanoke. This was to show how the Mechanical Department was using its assets. The amazing revelation was that on the Shenandoah Division, even the "Radio Flyers" exceeded the
tonnage ratings by as much as 1200 tons. Harry Bundy
