New Mallet Engines Ordered
The Norfolk and Western has placed an order for fifteen new Mallet engines [Class Z1] from the American Locomotive Company. The Virginian has also placed an order for four compound Mallet engines [Class AD] with superheaters which will be built by the same concern. The Norfolk and Western now has ten Mallet engines, five of the Baldwin [ClassY1] and five of the American type [Class X1]. They have been in use on the Pocahontas division for about two years.
