ERECTING SHOP IN LOCAL YARD
------
Facilities Will Be Provided For Repairing Engines In Bluefield--Expenditure of $75,000 Involved
The Norfolk and Western, according to a reliable report, is to construct an erecting shop in the local yards near the present. roundhouse which will permit of repairing and overhauling engines here. The shop will be similar to shops at Roanoke and Portsmouth and will be large enough to take care of all the engines on the Pocahontas division. >From fifteen to twenty engines can be handled at a time, and it is planned to install heavy electric cranes and other massive machinery which will permit of what is known in railroad parlance of No. 5 overhauling, which is almost equivalent to turning an old engine into a new one.
The building, it is said, will be erected and completely equipped this year, and will cost in the neighborhood of $75,000. No officials could be seen last night so that further details could be secured, but it was learned unofficially that the appropriation for the building has been made, and actual construction will commence soon.
The new shop will give employment to a number of skilled mechanics and materially increase the local pay roll as work that is now done at Roanoke or at Portsmouth will be.done here and the work which is now done here can be done at a smaller cost.
It is reported that the railroad company is considering the erection of a new roundhouse in the west yard where Pocahontas division engines can be housed, while the present roundhouse, which is an enormously large one will be mainly devoted to Radford division engines and some of the Pocahontas division engines.

[A Bluefield erecting shop and a roundhouse in west yard were not to be.]
