Ed and all,

I have investigated the prices of the RS-11s from three retailers. Maine Model Works was the cheapest at $250 for DCC/Sound and $168.75 for DCC ready. TrainWorld and Tony’s Trains appeared to be at the high end at had the same prices which are $274.99 for DCC/Sound and $184.99 for DCC ready. Obviously the society has to be competitive and yield a profit at the same time. Hence, our prices for members are $260 for DCC/Sound and $175 for DCC ready.

We will take pre-orders for the N&W blue units, N&W black “as delivered” unit and the undecorated N&W unit. The task before us is getting the pre-order information on the commissary section of the website which I will task the proper people of such beginning tomorrow. Our pre-order process will be the same as with a retailer. We will take your name, contact information and credit card information. Credit cards will not be charged until the item(s) ship.

As previously stated, please hang in there with regarding announcing the sale of this item and other items. We will publish the information in the Q3 TAF and have a PDF document of the announcements on the commissary portion of the society’s web site. Thanks to all.

Regards,

Thanks for the clarification Todd. I won't pre-order any RS11's until I see what the Society is able to offer.

Jim,

I believe what Ken is saying is that we cannot make such an announcement until the manufacturer does and we (the society) come to terms with the manufacturer.

Yesterday was our first conversation with Rapido since the announcement. Terrms were discussed and agreed to. We now have to create SKU numbers and update the website. This will take time as the folks that maintain the website also have full time occupations.

Please hang in there with us as I have prepared a document about this and other models. Now that we have the details from Rapido I can complete the document and publish within the next five days. Thank you.

Ken

I am totally confused!!!

The Rapido Trains web site lists the HO RS11 with an order deadline of Oct 15, 2018

There is also a full description of the prototype and model.

If you can order it direct and from dealers, what part of "not released by the manufacturer" am I not understanding?? I am not trying to be a PITA, it just seems there is a disconnect here.

If we violate it with one group, it is going to hurt or reputation, and we will no longer be consulted, or made privy to these options.

My comment is that the society should be more proactive in soliciting preorders from the Commissary rather than waiting for the manufacturer to formally announce its release. If the dealers can set a discount price in advance, I am sure the MAT can figure it out as well. And more pre-orders should lower the society cost as well.

Pre-selling the RS-11 will highlight the number of N&W modelers within our society in addition to the modelers outside of our society. This will hopefully lead to another run with different paint schemes. Ordering the items from the Society supports the Society and its continuing operation and allows us to order more from the manufacturer and shows them that our members support N&W/VGN products.
