When were milk and cream shipments discontinued?

On page 150 of August Thieme’s book, The Norfolk and Western … As I Knew It, there is a nice photo of an empty N&W stock car train taking on water at Richlands, VA on its way to Blackford on the Honaker Branch of the Clinch Valley Line.

I believe most milk cans were transported in baggage and express cars.  >From what I've read about the dairy industry, I don't think it was so much that the railroads stopped accepting them but the dairy traffic simply moved to trucks for cost and effeciancy reasons.
