O guage Y-6b

Mike is absolutely correct, Locksound is the top of the line in sound.  Soundtraxx is fading fast and has been boughtout by digitrax.  QSI is reworking most of their modules and updating them, but keeps changing their standards.
The HO Y6b that was produced was not the best seller.  Why would BLI or PCM produce a Y anything else with all the complaints, [allot from our society members] mostly  about the price and sound.  What do you want at that price for a nonbrass loco.  I noticed several of our society menbers buying the AHM/RIV model after a much improved model has been produced and severly reduced.  Now they are dumping the new Y6b and still are stuck.  They had to explain on their site that the sound was taken from Links recordings and downloaded and still most of you are not happy.  Furthermore why would they produce a Y4,5,6,6a for the society only, THEY HAVE A LIMITED MARKET!!!!  They are not famous like the BIG THREE - J, A, and Y6b. The only possibility is another version of the class A using most of the already done tooling, but even that could be a stretch. I believe some one you can lobby all you want but the models want happen, they aren't stupid.  Sunset announced the N&W K2 streamline in HO with sound much cheaper than an OMI piece, and did not pull enough orders.  Keys K2 has not gone up in value and at times several can be found on ebay.  I wonder many times whythe K2a model is not popular!  Can anyone explain?
The only chance is the N&W Powhattan Arrow being done.  I had one manufacture interested in plastic models, but our president did not forward the society project staff and still has not announced who or what has been done.   The project is now dropped.

Andre, Lok sound by far and away is the best sound system out there. If you do not like the canned sound you can program your OWN sound files into them!! My Y6b's and my EL-2b electric sets with Loksound are the darling of my op session and traveling shows!!  I do agree the new soundtrax steam decoders are very high qaulity but they DO NOT have the capibility of doing your own sound programming.  As time goes on we will get better sound control to make the sound even better. A playable whistle will go a long way to make the sound real!
 
On my Lenz system the loksound y6b's are a work of art,, you can start in simple or compound, listen to the cylinder cocks blow off steam at the start! Turn the sound down a bunch slow down and listen to the locomotive. Compare the sound to the Sunday river tape on articulated N&W steam and you will then know where the sound files came from!!

  Keep up the lobbying. Would love to see some Y6/Y6a's. Given all the heavy discounting, I had figured the Y6b's were slow movers or they'd run an awful lot of more of them at one time than the market could bear.

  Next time around, if you could get them to ditch the LokSound for Soundtraxx or QSI sound and cast the cab in plastic (like the BLI A), they'll be on to something. If they wanted to swap the die-cast tenders (big rivets) for the more finely detailed one on their A, that'd be great also.

  Otherwise, I'll keep eyeing my PCM Y6b's with a hacksaw in one hand to make them into Y6's.

    Mike - the great distinguishing feature that makes the Y-6 stand out from all the others is the driving wheels.  Get a good photo of a Y-6 and see the difference.

      Remember folks the running gear is the same for the y-4 through y6b class with the exception of the pilot and trailing truck. If you want these in HO let PCM know how many you may buy! 
       
      The running gear on a scale locomotive is the most expensive thing to develop the body shell etc are not as big as an investment!! 
       
      I have talked with folks at PCM and there is a possibilty of doing the y4 etc class if there is enough interest. The Y6 b was some what of a slow mover than they hoped for!! SO let them know what you want. 
       
      Many of us have worked hard whinning about what we want in N&W VGN and overall we can not complain of what models have been produced in the last 5 years. More goodies are coming!!! These are the good ole days in our hobby!!

        I’d like an HO scale version of a Y6, Y6a, or even a Y5.  
        Why is it that the number of engines built is inversely proportional to the models built? 
        We have HOW MANY J’s & Y6b’s ?????

            In case any of you are interested Sunset Third Rail is in the process of  trying to get enough reservations to produce a Y-6b. I personally own a large  number of their locos and have been very satisfied with their quality and  performance. They are also waiting to produce a K-2a  Streamline. I have  no vested interest in sunset except that I want to get one each of these locos  for myself. The Y-6b will go for 1799.95 and the K-2a Streamline will be  1199.96. There must be a few O scale railroaders who might want one of these.  By the way reservations cost nothing.  Robert  Starkweather
