Coaling Stations
Steve,
I wish I could help you with drawings, but I don't have any. You may have
to pick a prototype version and scale something from photos that fits your
scale and layout.
Putting aside the big facilities at Norfolk, Roanoke, Bluefield and
Williamson, there were a number of concrete structures between those
endpoints: Vicker/Walton, Farm, and Iaeger. They were of different sizes
and complexity, with the one at Auville Yard, Iaeger, being the least
complex. Having said that, the basic structures were each straightforward,
but the steel "rigging" of each was complex, and would be a challenge even
in HO scale.
There was a smaller facility at Shenandoah, VA, but the "rigging" was very
complex.
The volume "The N&W As I Knew It", published by the Society, has photos of
Vicker (page 98) and Shenandoah (page 136). I don't have photos of Auville
or Farm at hand, but they are around.
