Feral -- Indy Area Stray & Feral Cat Resource

About Feral

IndyFeral provides and maintains an e-mail subscriber list for caregivers,
rescue groups, veterinarians, Animal Care and Control officers, humane
societies and humane advocates. The list should be used for the positive
exchange of information, perspectives, ideas and cooperative solutions in an
effort to humanely manage, care or rescue a stray or feral cat in need.

The key is communication and working together as a community in an effort
to reduce pet overpopulation. Respecting that we all have a stake in the outcome, IndyFeral encourages an atmosphere of cooperation and trust to
make sure solutions can be found and implemented.

The over 500 people on our mailing list represent a wealth of information
and potential assistance for a variety of situations. Please try respect
their time by:

1. keeping your postings brief and to-the-point
2. If you have an IndyFeral specific question, please direct it to
contact@indyferal.org
3. Use "reply to all" wisely -- unless the entire mailing list will benefit from reading your comment, direct it only to the original sender
4. Since many rescue situations tend to be dynamic and often complicated,
please don't speculate or criticize frivolously until you know the facts
5. If you have a question for a specific person, send it to them, not to the list.

Our list is targeted specifically towards topics related to stray and feral cats. We also realize that many of the list subscribers are also passionate about a broad range of humane topics. We attempt to accommodate these interests by allowing the posting of messages regarding:

1. Rescue and assistance requests in central Indiana for any breed/species
2. Questions about related animal care topics affecting central Indiana
3. Requests for adoption/foster/placement assistance for unowned pets in central Indiana
4. Postings about upcoming events related to animal care in central Indiana

There are mailing lists available for a wide range of other topics and we
don't wish to duplicate effort, or abuse the trust of our subscribers, so we specifically prohibit:

1. Abusive, offensive or unduly critical postings
2. Discussions about legislative proceedings not involving topics related to stray and feral cats or animal welfare topics in central Indiana
3. Generalized marketing materials
4. Excessive "me too" postings
5. Postings to offer owned and/or unaltered animals for adoption
6. Postings that advocate or suggest behavior or activities contrary to the mission of IndyFeral and/or the welfare of animals

Please try to work at keeping our "feral" mailing list a viable and useful tool for sharing information. If you are uncertain about an issue you would like to post, please feel free to ask us before you post {contact@indyferal.org}.

All Postings Reviewed
---------------------
All postings submitted to the Feral Mailing List are reviewed and must be approved before they will be released to the subscribers. If there is a content or technical problem, you will be notified and ask to correct the situation and submit the posting again.

Special Guidelines for Posting Adoption Animals
-----------------------------------------------
As IndyFeral is on the front lines of the pet overpopulation crisis, we take responsible pet ownership very seriously. In just a couple years, a single breeding cat can give rise to a population of hundreds. To make the statement of resposibility heard loud and clear, we REQUIRE that animals being posted for adoption on the Feral Mailing List must be spayed or neutered before the time of adoption. If you have a compelling reason for not being able to accommodate this requirement, please contact us at contact@indyferal.org prior to posting, and your request will be considered. If you are financially unable to spay/neuter an animal, please check our web site for Spay/Neuter resources.

In the fall of 2005, the IndyFeral board voted that IndyFeral would not accept postings from people seeking to find homes for owned animals. All too often, people frivolously discard pets because of a perceived behavior problem. True behavior problems in animals are rare. Most "problems" are PEOPLE problems -- people don't understand their pet, or are not willing
to put the effort into keeping their pet, when they can simply discard it and get another one. Only in certain cases will owner surrender postings be accepted. Situations would primarily be people who are dying, or have died.

Posting Photographs
-------------------
To keep the load on the mailing list server reasonable, and out of respect to those of us with dial-up modem internet access, the Feral Mailing List has a maximum message size limit of 500KB. That translates to a .JPG image of about 450KB or less. Because our mailing list reaches people with various computing capabilities, we ask that you submit only the following type of file attachments:
.JPG/.JPEG
.GIF
.PDF
