Organizers:Espen Aarseth(ITUniversityofCopenhagen), Raiford
Guins(StonyBrookUniversity), HenryLowood (Stanford University), Carl
Therrien (UniversitédeMontréal).

Inspiteofthestrongwakeofgamestudiesinthelastdecade,thehistoryof videoand
computergamesisstillinitsinfancyintheacademic
world.Somesignificantcontributionshave
beenmadeandcontinuetoemerge.Inordertomakethemostoutofthesecontributionsand
toreflect onthe methodologicalissuestheyraise,wehavedecidedtocreate
thefirst internationalconference
onthehistoryofgames.Thiswillbetheoccasiontobringtogether academics,
curators and museumexhibitors, introducethegeneral publicand students
tothe historyofthemedium,andsensitizepartnersfromthegameindustrytotheir
roleinterms of cultural heritageand preservation.

Weinviteproposalson thehistoryofgamesatlarge, aslong asitistied
withtheelectro- mechanical
/digitaldevelopmentofthephenomenon.Specialattentionshouldbegiventothe
methodologicalissuesraisedbyyourhistoricalresearch.
Theconferenceseeksoriginal
submissionsfromresearchersinterestedindiverseareasofhistoricalstudyincluding,butnot
limited to:social history, militaryhistory, culturalhistory,
memorystudies, sensoryhistory,
historyoftechnology,historyofplayandgames,historyofcomputing,arthistory,
material culture, historical archaeology, as well as historical
preservation, library and information science,and museum studies.

Theconferencewill explorethreemain areasof historical research.
Weencourage contributorstoworkwithinoneoftheproposedtracks.Each
trackwillbeledbyakeynote speakerto kick-offthediscussionsand debates:

building the historyofgames.
