Regarding the Class K in local freight service -- Lamberts Point regulary  
furnished
engine 110 for a Petersburg Turn.  The Ks may have been  somewhat cumbersome 
for
locals,  but were restricted only at industrial sidings and  connections  in 
Suffolk and Petersburg.  Suffolk and Petersburg, of  course, had 0-8-0's 
assigned for switching service.  Later, Class Js  were furnished for the Petersburg 
Turn and even worked the spur to Gray Lumber  at Waverly, previously 
restricted to Class A, J, and Mallet engines.   Forever etched
in memory -- Eng 600 returning from Petersburg with the local on the  52-mile 
tangent Poe - Kilby.  In tow was a scale test car, which restricted  the 
speed to 30 MPH -- a far cry from the days of hustling No. 26 to Norfolk at  
whatever.
