Intermodal car transfers

Empty intermodal platforms: Saw the same thing a year ago south of Phoeniz on the UP/SP Sunset Line with a heavy powered eastbound and the dam'st long string of empties just a gettin it across the desert. I attributed it to an imbalance of containers heading back to the Pacific rim countries. And I know that sounds really strange, but it is all that made sense at that time.

Here in Ironton, OH on the Scioto Div main, we see many movements that have large numbers of empties passing each other both directions on many of the same days (?).

"Ours not to question why", right ?

Subject: Intermodal car transfers

  Hello all,

Last week I saw something I'd never seen before. It was an eastbound intermodal that came through Marion, VA about 6:00 a.m. The only thing was, it was EMPTY! There was not one single loaded car on this train. Does anyone know where this train was headed? Also, is this considered a non-revenue train since it obviously was not making any money?

  Ben Blevins
