N&W Employee Divisions

The Oct. '64 merger also added the St. Thomas Division -- a gigantic  joint
facility arrangement with Canadian National, Fort Erie to Windsor,  Ontario.
Authority for movement of N&W trains was contained in CN's  Southwest
Ontario timetable.  On a Windsor-Chatham turn, I found CN was  running
passenger trains on unsignaled double track laid in 100#  jointed rail  at
80 MPH.  The Canadian Parliament had to authorize N&W's  Canadian
operations every 16 years.  A note of distinction-- on the  N&W they were
cabooses or cabin cars, but the car at the end of a freight on the St. 
Thomas Division was a van.
