Harry,

I've seen "field welds" ( the name of which I cannot remember now to save my life) for the past 20+ years around Roanoke. I'm sure our MofW friends can fill us in.

Abe:

Bellevue welded rail into 1440 ft strips. When installed, I believe the strips
were coupled with rail joints. Are the joints now made using a field weld ?

An interesting note - Roanoke welded rail for RF&P before N&W ever used
welded rail.
